“Neru” has a socially relevant theme, says Mohanlal

Mohanlal’s forthcoming movie Neru is all set for release on 21 December. The intriguing trailer, unveiled recently, piqued the interest of film buffs.
As the title suggests, Neru (The Truth) is about finding the truth.
According to Mohanlal, it is an emotional courtroom drama and has no similarities with the Drishyam series or 12th Man (2022).
“Neru is a different genre from director Jeethu Joseph. We researched a lot for the movie as it has courtroom scenes. Unlike other films with cinematic elements, the courtroom scenes in Neru are genuine. This is the second time I’m doing an out-and-out role of an advocate after Adhipan (1989),” Mohanlal told the media.
He was in Thiruvananthapuram as part of Neru promotions on Wednesday, 13 December.
When asked about why he chose to do the film, the Malayalam Superstar said it has a socially-relevant theme. However, he refused to comment on his performance.
“I won’t say I have a lot of moments to perform in the movie. My character is a person who is smart but helpless due to certain problems,” Mohanlal said.
The actor clarified that Neru is not a crime thriller and asked the audience to watch it without expectations.
Neru is scripted jointly by Jeethu Joseph and Santhi Mayadevi, an advocate. She also played a crucial role in Drishyam 2.
About his successful combination with Mohanlal, director Jeethu Joseph said Mohanlal acts in his films if he likes the story. “When we work with an actor for some time, we know more about their choices, preferences and working style, and also build a rapport with them.”
The director added that he tried to exploit Mohanlal in all his films and assured that Neru would be different from his previous works.
“Neru is about what happens to the case when it reaches the court. About 60-70 percent of the scenes are inspired by the original courtroom procedures, and we have tried to keep them realistic,” the filmmaker explained.
He also rubbished the social media theories about Neru’s story.
Priyamani plays the female lead in the film. It also casts Anaswara Rajan, Ganesh Kumar, and Jagadish.
It is produced by Antony Perumbavoor’s Aashirvad Cinemas.
